Mode of inhibitory action of gossypol on Na+, K+-ATPase in vitro

When ouabain was applied in combination with gossypol, the inhibitory effect of both gossypol and ouabain on Na+, K+-ATPase activity was antagonistic.
The kinetic studies of gossypol on [3H] ouabain binding to Na+, K+-ATPase showed that gossypol decreased both Kd and the Bmax values uncompetitively, whereas digoxin decreased competitively.
K+ did not affect the action of gossypol on [3H]ouabain binding to Na+,K+-ATPase.
