Relationship between cholinesterase activity and acetylcholine of the brains of mice acutely intoxicated with soman

Xiao Zhang, Bo-yi Qin

Abstract

In mice following soman 100 microg/kg sc intoxication the dynamic courses of recovery of the toxic signs and the Ach content of brain tissue showed a parallelism. After soman q 12 h sc for 4 and 5 times with above dose, the ChE activity of mouse brain was once equal to 0% of normal as measured by hydroxylamine spectrophotometry, whereas it was found to be repectively 2.5 and 1.2% of normal measured by radiochemistry assay. Having incubated at 37 ºC for 20 min, the residual ChE almost completely hydrolyzed the [3H] Ach which was added at 49 micromol/mL. More recovery of the enzyme was found in the reserve ChE than that in the fuctional ChE.
