Prophylactic effects of m-nisoldipine and nisoldipine on reperfusion arrhythmia in hearts of rats

Yu-Long Li, Shao-Xuan Fu, Yun-Shan Li

Abstract

m-Nisoldipine (m-Nis) or nisoldipine (Nis) (iv or perfused 10 min prior to coronary artery ligation) prevented reperfusion-induced arrhythmias in anaesthetized rats and Langendorff hearts of rats. m-Nis or Nis also reduced the contents of nonesterified fatty acids, the level of cell calcium, and free radical formation in the myocardium from the reperfused area. In conclusion, m-Nis or Nis prevents reperfusion-induced arrhythmias by regulating the metabolism of nonesterified fatty acids, lowering cell calcium and inhibiting free radical formation.
