Antihistaminic action of piperauine
Abstract
Piperaquine is l, 3-Bis-[4-(7'-chloro-quinoline-4') piperazine-l] propane tetraphosphate. The antihistaminic actions of piperaquine were studied on blood pressure in anesthetiecd rat. isolated guinea pig ileum, and asthma in guinea pig induced by inhaling histamine spray. Piperaquine had a marked anti-histaminic action. Piperquine 10 VM antagonized the histamine-induced contraction of isolated guinea pig ileum, shifting the dose-response curve to the right. The antagonist parameter.pA2 = 5.4 (95% confidence limits 5.3-5.5). The results suggest that the antihistaminic action of piperaquine is probably competitive.
