Anti-arrhythmic eefects of sodiijm selenite
Abstract
The effects of Na2Se03 on aconitinc- ouabain-, BaCl2- and chloroform-induced arrhythmias were studied. Na2Se03 2 mg/kg iv elevated the threshold doses of ouabain necessary to induce ventricular premature beats in guinea pigs but had no protective effects on aconitine- or BaC12-induced arrhythmias in rats. After ip l mg/kg/d x 5 d the threshold doses of aconitine, ouabain and BaC12 to induce various kincls of arrhythmias and heart arrest were increaseci. Na2SeO3 did not influence the chloroform-induced arrhythmia in mice. The effect of multiple doses of Na2SeO3 on ouabain-arrhythmias seems to resemble that of lidocaine.
