Evaluation of phototoxicity of five antimalarial agents and praziquantel in mice
Abstract
Slightly phototoxic reactions (swelling and erythema) were seen in mice exposed to uv radiation for 24 h after intragastric gavage of chloroquine phosphate 300-600 mg base/kg, piperaquine phosphate 549-1098 mg base/kg, nitroquine acetate 26.7-53.5 mg base/kg and praziquantel 2180-2500 mg/kg. No photoxicity was noted in mice given pyronaridine phosphate 800 mg base/kg and quinacrine hydrochloride 1500 mg base/kg.
