Influence of cigarette nicotine on learning and memory of mice

Abstract

A method letting mice go through a maze for food was used in our experiment, and the changes of learning and memory of the mice aftger inhalations of cigarette fumes or injections of nicotine were observed. The times needed for their going through the maze after inhalations of cigarette fumes and injections of nicotine were respectively 4 and 2 times prolonged, and the mistakes were increased 8.5 and 2.5 times, respectively. The memory times needed for their going through the maze were 2.4 and 2.6 times and the mistakes were 2 and 5 times, respectively. The results indicate that nicotine in cigarettes was harmful to the learning and memory behavior of mice.
