Anticonvulsive action of succinate and geometrical isomers of ethylene-1,2-dicarboxylic acid

Ming-yu Zhang, Shi-shan Zhang

Abstract

The ED50 and 95% confidence limits of 4 succinate analogues against the seizure induced by electric shock were compared in mice. For ip injections, fumarate (6.3±1.3 mmol/kg)maleate. Following ip injection of succinate (l0 mmol/kg), the concentration of GABA in brain was elevated about 19%, and the decrease of GABA level produced by semicarbazide was antagonized, suggesting that the anticonvulsive action of succinate analogues was related to the rising of the brain GABA content.
