Somatosensory evoked potentials after depletion of monoamines by reserpine

Wen-Bin Li, Cheng-Tong Dong

Abstract

The components of somatosensory evoked potentials (SEP) P7, Ne. P12 and Ni- were recorded from scalp when the right median nerve was stimulated by electrical pulses in conscious rabbits. The peak latencies of all the components were significantly prolonged at 27+SD 9.3h after im reserpine l-1.2 mg/kg. The amplitudes of P12 and Nis were also enhanced by reserpine significantly. These results suggest that the somatosensory afferent function could be involved after depleting the monoamines by reserpine and the monoamines might exert modulating effect on the somatosensory afferent function in normal condition.
