Influence of tetrandrine and verapamil on hemodynamic action of ouabain in guinea pigs
Abstract
After being pretreated with verapamil and tetrandrine, the amount of ouabain required to induce and reach the peak of inotropic effect as well as toxic reaction were increased, while its peak value of positive inotropic effect was unaltered. Neither the toxicity of ouabain nor its margin of safety was changed. But prevention an therapeutic action of tetrandrine and verapamil on ouabain-induced arrhythmia were demonstrated. These antiarrhythmic effects of tetrandrine and verapamil may be relevant to calcium-antogonistic action.
