Retention of [169Yb]Ytterbium citrate in rats by fluorescence sensitization autoradiography

Shou-peng Zhu

Abstract

A method was described for rapid preparation of autoradiographs for tissue slices by impregnation of nuclear track emulsion with liquid scintillators PPO and POPOP. Mixing liquid scintillator, especially a hydrophilic dioxane solvent, with emulsion allowed also rapid autoradiographic production. The number of autoradiographic grains/10 microm2 was increased by the scintillator by 5-10 times. The use of scintillators with 169Yb citrate shortened the exposure time.
169Yb was found in the blood within 24 h and accumulated chiefly in skeleton, then in kidneys, liver, spleen, lungs, and brain. If stable Yb-citrate was iv 2 h previously, the accumulation of 169Yb in skeleton was decreased by 68%.
