Adrenoceptors in lacrimal glands of mice

Bao-hua Li, Wang-xin Gao

Abstract

Effects of adrenaline, noradrenaline, phenylephrine and isoprenaline on the lacrimal secretion were determined in conscious mice and in anesthetized and atropinized rats. All drugs except isoprenaline (10 mg/kg) caused an increase of lacrimal secretion in mice.
The lacrimation in mice induced by adrenergic drugs was inhibited by pretreatment with phentolamine (5 mg/kg, ip), but not by propranolol (10 mg/kg, ip). The results suggest the presence of alpha-adrenoceptor in the mouse lacrimal gland.
