abstract = {The effects of narcissin (Nar), an extract from the pollen of Typha angustata Bory et Chaub, on cardiovascular function and myocardial oxygen consumption were studied in 7 anesthetized open-chest dogs and 36 isolated guinea pig hearts in comparison with the action of ligustrazin (Lig). The tracings were recorded on RM-86 polygraph.
Both Nar and Lig markedly increased the coronary flow and decreased the myocardiac contractile force (MCF) as well as±MCdF/dt in isolated hearts. The exponential function curve between the decreasing MCF and the increasing coronary flow for Lig shifted parallelly rightward from Nar.
Nar distinctively decreased the arterial blood pressure, the oxygen consumption and take-up rate of oxygen by myocardium and slightly affected the cardiac function indices, heart rate, total peripherial vascular resistance and the coronary blood flow in the anesthetized dogs. Lig lowered the arterial blood pressure and increased the left ventricular pressure,±LVdP/dt, heart rate, coronary blood flow and the volume of myocardial oxygen consumption, but did not change the cardiac pump function. Nar may be recomended for the treatment of coronary heart disease, since Nar has the advantage of decreasing myocardial oxygen consumption without increasing heart rate.},
