Protective action of ubiquinone on ischemic myocardium in anesthetized dogs %K %X The effects of ubiquinone (coenzyme Q10) on acute myocardial ischemia induced by ligation of left anterior descending coronary artery in 26 anesthetized, open-chest dogs were studied. Pretreatment with iv ubiquinone 15 mg/kg reduced the size of myocardial infarct 6 h after ligation, and reduced the seriousness and number of sites of ST-segment elevation 15, 30, 60, and 120 min after ligation. Ubiquinone lowered the elevated plasma level of lactate and the activity of serum CPK and lactate dehydrogenase. Ubiquinone also mitigated the depletion of CPK, lactate dehydrogenase CP and accumulation of lactate in ischemic myocardium. There was no significant difference between the hemodynamics of control and ubiquinone groups, but the myocardial ubiquinone content was elevated by a pretreatment with ubiquinone. These results show that the deleterious effects of acute myocardial ischemia may be ameliorated by exogenous ubiquinone. %U http://www.chinaphar.com/article/view/4903 %V 7 %N 2 %P 141-144 %@ 1745-7254
