abstract = {It was assessed that the effects of cytoskeletal inhibitors colchicines (CC) and cytochalasin B (CB) on lectin-mediated cell agglutination of ascetic hepatoma of mice by quantitative spectrophotometric determinations. Both CB and CC (2 or 5 microg/ml, 4 or 10 microM) prevented the agglutination mediated by wheat germ agglutinin (WGA), concanavalin A (Con A) and phytohemagglutinin (PHA). CB alone could significantly inhibit the agglutination mediated by all of 3 lectins by 30-40%. Though it inhibited the agglutination mediated only by PHA, CC enhanced synergistically the effect of CB upon these 3 lectins.
N-acetyl-D-glucosamine (GN, an appropriate sugar hapten inhibitor, 1-2 mg/ml or 4-8 mM) inhibited or even patially reversed the agglutination mediated by WGA. Complete reversal could be acquired if cells were pretreated with 4 mM of CB. It is surmised that the complete reversal of WGA-mediated agglutination might be achieved by the combined action of GN and CB.},
